Precious Metals

Myanmar holds significant reserves of precious metals like gold and silver, which have been historically important in the country’s mining industry.

Gold

Myanmar is known for its large gold deposits, particularly in Kayin State, Shan State, and Yamethin. The country’s gold mines are typically placer (alluvial) gold, which is extracted through panning and dredging. Shwe Kyin and Shwe Moe Yan gold mines in central Myanmar are examples of operational gold projects, and the Yamethin Region is known for its historic gold mines.

Silver
  • Silver is commonly found alongside gold, often extracted as a by-product of gold mining operations. Silver reserves are spread across several regions, including Sagaing Region and Shan State, and it plays an important role in Myanmar’s mining exports.
